about
Christine Brooks is a photographer currently working and residing in Seattle, Washington. She was born and raised in Bergen County, New Jersey, and the "jersey girl" name is a tribute to her east coast roots. Since earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Utah State University in 1996, she has actively pursued her photographic work, documenting everything from weddings and live concerts, to family portraits and urban street life. When describing her photographic style, she finds inspiration in the words of Ferris Bueller, who noted that "life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in awhile, you could miss it." She adds that "For me, photography is all about capturing the inner beauty of a subject. As a photographer, I feel that the only way to do this is to not concern yourself with how a subject is posed, with what they are doing or not doing, but to react to what you see through the viewfinder. The camera becomes an extension of you, and each click of the shutter, like the blink of an eye, captures a moment in time; a movement, a glance, a smile. There is so much beauty waiting to be discovered...if you just stop to look around!"

the urban landscape
I currently reside in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Just a short walk from downtown, it is an area that is very vibrant and alive with all kinds of activity. One of the things that I frequently encounter as I walk the surrounding areas near my small city dwelling are the flyers, posters, and works of art that people fasten to just about any surface they can; telephone poles, metal pipes, walls, you name it. Any piece of empty space is fair game, and in many cases, people tear down or simply cover over what someone may have put there only a short while ago. Like the bark of an old tree, my eye often wanders to the textures and interesting visuals that these posters and their surroundings create. And as in nature, the human and natural elements often alter those textures, creating new ones in their place.
